We are pleased to present the second part of the Fenêtre Ovale project. After a remarkable debut album that brought together composer Karl Naegelen and improvisers Eve Risser and Joris Rühl, the group expanded to include percussionist Toma Gouband and violinist Amaryllis Billet.

Armed with these new sonic possibilities, the musicians of this “Deuxième Volet” by Fenêtre Ovale extend and deepen their meticulous quest for an acoustic alchemy that allows them to change a violin, a clarinet, a piano and percussions into starling flight, into fluid mechanics, in a troglodyte temple, in gold, in lead. Mystical, trivial, chiseled, the music takes shape in the tension between the rigorous precision of the writing and the palpitating fragility of the playing of the instrumentalists that Karl Naegelen takes care to preserve while developing the score.

Among the twelve pieces that make up this project, five miniatures form a cohesive subset which was commissioned by the Alla Breve show on France Musique.

The new oval window corpus is made up of small, extremely contrasting shapes, where the most mechanical, even trivial, universe rubs shoulders with the purest sound, or choirs mingle with strange sound engines made of crackles and breaths. In search of a full, grainy, composite sound, musicians play at confusing sources and play with thresholds; crackles become outfits, breaths cracklings, the rhythms of heights …
