Shelly Blake-Plock et son directeur musical Joel Grip ont r\u00e9uni une distribution internationale incluant le ph\u00e9nom\u00e8ne parisien Eve Risser, le trompettiste bas\u00e9 \u00e0 Stockholm Niklas Barn\u00f6, le clarinettiste John Dierker, le violoniste Ryan Dorsey, les batteurs Lyle Kissack et Ben McConnell, et Jessica Riefler, Carly Ptak, Twig Harper, Lawrence Lanahan ainsi que d\u2019autres voix pour enregistrer un album qui m\u00eale l\u2019exp\u00e9rimentation radicale en improvisation libre du 21\u00e8me si\u00e8cle \u00e0 la tradition de narration et d\u2019incarnation de personnages du 19\u00e8me si\u00e8cle. Il est produit par Shelly Blake-Plock et Matthew H Welch.<\/span><\/p>\n

Une oeuvre \u00e9clectique compos\u00e9e de styles allant du quasi-jazz maltsch \u00e0 des pi\u00e8ces improvis\u00e9es de musique de chambre au art rock bruyant, \u201cThe Violencestring\u201d est bas\u00e9 sur une nouvelle victorienne de Sabine Baring-Gould. Elle raconte l\u2019histoire d\u2019une jeune gar\u00e7on dont le voeux le plus cher est d\u2019apprendre \u00e0 jouer du violon. H\u00e9las, quand on a des parents loup-garous, les cours de musique ne sont pas au programme.<\/span><\/p>\n

Blake-Plock et Welch ont enregistr\u00e9 l\u2019album dans un manoir abandonn\u00e9 de Baltimore. Les racines lo-fi de Shelly et son point de vue unique sur l\u2019\u00e9dition sonore transpara\u00eet fortement dans le projet. Il a appel\u00e9 \u201cson r\u00e9ductif\u201d son proc\u00e9d\u00e9 qui consiste \u00e0 enregistrer live un mur d\u2019instruments – certains avec une petite arm\u00e9e de micros et d\u2019autres directement dans la console. C\u2019est ensuite dans le studio de mixage qu\u2019est prise la d\u00e9cision de tailler dans l\u2019enregistrement afin de trouver la musique et les sons les plus essentiels pour mettre en avant la narration. Au lieu de lisser le montage, Shelly laisse les bords aiguis\u00e9s et autorise son et espace \u00e0 appara\u00eetre et dispara\u00eetre d\u2019une mani\u00e8re tr\u00e8s directe et brute.
