Jon Birkholz

Pianist Jon Birkholz is a recent graduate of the jazz program at Peabody Conservatory. Lately, he has performed at a wide variety of venues, ranging from a weekly gig at Jordan’s steak house in Ellicott City to downtown Baltimore’s An Die Musik, and as far away as Luna Lounge in Brooklyn New York. Jon has appeared with well known local musicians such as Gary Thomas, Michael Formanek, and Jeff Reed. In addition to freelancing, Jon plays with Soul Cannon, a local hip-hop band and also appears monthly at Cafe Hon in Hamden with the Ben Frock trio. Jon also likes to focus on his own compositions and performs his own music somewhat regularly around Baltimore. Complete Breakfast, his piece for improvising violin and computer was recently honored with acceptance into the SEAMUS (Society for Electroacoustic Music in the United States) 2006 national conference and was performed at the end of March of 2006 in Eugene, Oregon. He has just released his first album as a leader, entitled “Flora Fauna” featuring Michael Formanek on bass and Devin Gray on drums.
